About Life From Above

When Jesus walked the earth, he called himself the Bread of Life. He offered people the Water of Life, and said that He came to give us full life, abundant life. 1 John 1:2 says that Jesus himself is life: “The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.”

Jesus is life. The Bible teaches that apart from Him, people have physical life, but not spiritual life. The life that He offers is not just eternal in the sense that it goes on forever, but also in the sense that it comes from God and is an entirely different quality of life than what we can experience without Him. Jesus offers a life of love and joy and peace. He makes it possible for us to know God and share our lives with Him. He teaches us how to love one another. Over time, He makes us more and more like Himself by His Spirit within us. If we let Him, Jesus will show us what life really is, and how to live it.

Like many others, I have received the gift of true life, eternal life, from Jesus. Now I want to live that life and help others do the same. These blog posts are an attempt to describe the path Jesus is inviting us to walk in. They appear as “Thursday Thoughts” in a weekly email sent out to the people of Community Church of Susanville, California. The Life From Above blog is a way to make them available to anyone else who may find them helpful.
